Winemaker's Notes

Few vintages have expressed all the virtues of the Tuscan coast’s climate as eloquently as 2023. An almost perfect combination of sunshine, warm summer days and cool nights, with just about enough rain to slow down the vine’s growth without making them suffer from drought have led to one of the purest expressions of Le Volte dell’Ornellaia, combining perfectly ripe yet vibrant fruit with a silky and generous texture underlined by a fresh and lively acidity.

Critic Ratings

Jeb Dunnuck Review - Rated 93:

The 2023 Le Volte Dell'Ornellaia is a saturated red/ruby color and is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, raised in used barrels for around 10 months. Always a wine leaning into the fruity and approachable side of things, the nose is fruity and fresh with aromas of candied flowers, crushed raspberries, red apples, and fresh stony earth. Medium to full-bodied, it’s very elegant with a joyful ease. It’s a great snapshot into these wines, which are mighty tasty now and have a lot of character. Drink 2025-2035.

Wine Spectator Review - Rated 90:
Cherry, black currant, wild herb, earth and smoke notes grace this succulent red. Balanced, with a firm grip of tannins on the smoky finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030. 14,500 cases imported.
